The Power of Pink was created in 2007 to provide mammogram screenings and follow-ups for underserved women of Haywood County. Since the first event 1,338 mammograms and follow-up procedures have been provided for 800 women. The Power of Pink celebrates ten years of helping women of Haywood County with an earlier date and two events in 2016.
This year the event will consist of the Power of Pink 5K and Survivor/Honor/Memory Walk. Dogs may participate and get their own pink bandana with the registration fee. The Power of Pink 5K course takes runners from the start line behind the Haywood Regional Health & Fitness Center through the rear of the hospital to Jones Cove Road for an out-and-back before returning to the start/finish area. Post race, please stay around for food and drink, music, food trucks and the awards ceremony as well as to honor those participating in the Survivor/Honor/Memory Walk. Awards will be given to the top overall male and female, the top masters male and female and the top 3 male/female in the following age groups: 14&Under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70&Over.
