Lunch and Learn – “Fortifying Your Framework – A Fall and Fracture Free Future” on Monday May 23, 2016

Kate Queen, MD, of Mountain Medical Associates and the hospital’s rehabilitation, nutrition and fitness center teams will be leading the presentation, will be leading the presentation, “Fortifying Your Framework: A Fall & Fracture Free Future” on Monday May 23, 2016 from noon to 1:30pm at the Haywood Regional Health and Fitness Center 2nd floor classroom.  Presentation topics will include improving balance, nutrition for bone and muscle health, safe movement and more. Dr. Kate Queen has practiced as a rheumatologist with Mountain Medical Associates in Clyde and on the medical staff of Haywood Regional Medical Center since 1986. She is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine, and completed her Internship and Residency at Chapel Hill as well. She completed a fellowship in Rheumatology at Duke University. Dr. Queen serves as the Medical Director of the Haywood Regional Health & Fitness Center. Dr. Queen was instrumental in developing a regional Osteoporosis Center and a mobile bone density testing program which she continues to direct.  In addition, Dr. Queen, as Site Principal Investigator, will lead the Haywood County team in new pragmatic community based clinical trial funded with $6 million dollar grant from the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS).  The research team includes co-investigators from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Brigham and Women’s Hospital Harvard University, Wake Forest Health Sciences, East Carolina University, and the University of Sydney, Australia.

Watch for additional “Lunch and Learn” and "Dinner with the Doc" seminars this year on topics including Pediatrics, Family Wellness, Women’s Health, Men’s Health, Spine Issues, Joint Replacement, Senior Heath and Elder Care, Breast Cancer and Lung Cancer.  Seminars typically occur on the 3rd Thursday of the month approximately 10 times a year.
