National Healthcare Environmental Services Week
September 12, 2017
PRESS RELEASE – For Immediate Release
Clyde, NC – September 2017
In recognition of the vital role that environmental service workers play, Haywood Regional Medical Center recognizes their EVS team during the week of Sept 10 – 16th, 2017 – National Healthcare Environmental Services Week. Our environmental services team is responsible for caring for the patient environment across all care settings; including the hospital, outpatient care center, urgent care centers, and physician practices.
In a healthcare environment, harmful or pathogenic microorganisms must be reduced or killed in order to protect and ensure the well-being of patients, staff and visitors. Disinfection, sanitizing and decontaminating surfaces, whether they are found in the isolation room, operating room, patient room or elsewhere within the facility, can be enormously challenging. EVS staff plays an essential role in providing a clean and safe environment for all through infection prevention and control practices.
Our EVS team also has a positive impact on the patient experience and the perception of the care they receive. Many of our team members go above and beyond their call of duties to care for the patients they serve. EVS team members will get to know patients on a personal level, creating bonds and developing friendships. When team members get to know their patients, they may notice when something is wrong before anyone else does. If the patient doesn’t seem to be breathing correctly or isn’t responding as usual, they can alert the nursing team to ensure the patient receives the urgent care they may need. On more than one occasion this has led to crucial help from the EVS team in saving the life of a patient.
Join us in celebrating and acknowledging our 29 EVS team members for their contributions to providing quality healthcare for the patients and visitors we serve and the extraordinary teamwork required to care for our complex healthcare environment. We thank them and are grateful for their hard work all year long.
