Baby & Children's Fair - June 1
May 13, 2019
Haywood Regional Medical Center (HRMC) cordially invites all community members to a baby and children’s fair on Sat. June 1 from 10 am – 1 pm at Haywood Regional Health & Fitness Center located at 75 Leroy George Drive, Clyde (adjacent to hospital).
This event will encompass numerous HRMC vendors as well as community vendors offering services. Examples include: Waynesville Wellness Center will be offering a free ultrasound of your baby's heartbeat (no image), Haywood Community College will be providing Child and Baby CPR education and training, and Haywood Co. Library will be present to market their reading programs for children which include service dogs that children can read with. Enjoy pregnancy and baby health information, prenatal yoga and massage demonstrations and information, first-aid for children, child seat safety education and checks, giveaways, and children's activities. Community members will also get the opportunity to meet local obstetricians, certified nurse midwives, doulas, lactation consultants, and pediatricians.
Children are invited to bring their own stuffed animal or stuffed friend with them for a check-up at the Blue Ridge Health booth. This hands-on opportunity encourages children to interact with common medical equipment such as a stethoscope as they become doctors or nurses to give their stuffed friend a check-up!
Haywood Co. Health Department will be screening for diabetes and also offering smoking cessation counseling. Megan Hauser, Healthy Haywood Coordinator, will be able to schedule appointments on-site for interested participants. Also, Region A Partnership for Children, a non-profit organization that administers North Carolina’s Smart Start and NC Pre-K initiatives in the seven western-most counties, will be offering free books to children and signups for the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (DPIL). DPIL is a book gifting program that mails free books to children until they begin school, no matter their family’s income. Regional A Partnership for Children will also have staff providing families with information on their Parents as Teachers program and the Family Support Network program.
“This really is an event for just about everything mom, baby or children. There are numerous educational opportunities such as CPR and first-aid, but most importantly community members can come learn about services close to home as a parent or for your children to be a part of,” says Dr. Jenny Van Winkle, OBGYN with HRMC.
Vendors include: Haywood Regional Medical Center, Haywood Regional Health & Fitness Center (massage, children's fitness classes, swim lessons, pool parties, and nursery), Haywood Breast Center, Mountain Pediatric Group, Haywood Women's Medical Center, Luna Mountain Doulas, Blue Ridge Health Center, Mother’s Connections, Haywood Regional Pediatric Therapy, Family Nurse Partnership, Wonderworks Learning Center, Haywood Co.
