Having regular mammograms can save your life.
Mammograms are able to detect cancers too small to feel with a self-exam and can find them early when they are easier to treat. The American Cancer Society recommends women over 40 have a screening mammogram once a year.

Benefits of 3D Mammograms
Three-dimensional mammography creates a three-dimensional picture of the breast using X-rays. Several low-dose images from different angles around the breast are used to create the 3D picture. A conventional mammogram creates a two-dimensional image of the breast from two X-ray images of each breast. Several studies have found that 3D mammograms find more cancers than traditional 2D mammograms and also reduce the number of false positives. A 3D mammogram at Haywood Regional Medical Center can improve cancer detection by 40%*.
Commonly Asked Questions
Q: What to expect?
A: 3D mammography is very similar to having a traditional mammogram. As with a 2D mammogram, your breast will be compressed between two plates, and adding 3D imaging to the standard mammogram only adds a few extra seconds.
Q: Does 3D mammography have a higher radiation dose?
A: 3D imaging has a slightly higher dose than traditional 2D, the total dosage is within acceptable FDA guidelines.
Q: Who interprets my mammogram?
A: At Haywood Regional Medical Center our technologists are fully accredited and certified by the American College of Radiology to provide the highest quality screening mammography services. Our digital mammograms are interpreted by the physicians of Haywood Medical Imaging who together have more than 100 years of experience in interpretation of mammograms and other breast imaging procedures.
Q: What happens if I am diagnosed with cancer?
A: If you are diagnosed with breast cancer, there are comprehensive services available to you right here at home.
