HRMC Awards $4,000 in Scholarships to Local Students

Haywood Regional Medical Center (HRMC) presented four scholarships to students at the County Clash football game Friday, October 14. The scholarships of $1,000 each are presented to seniors with the top GPAs in band and football at Pisgah and Tuscola High Schools. The hospital is proud to contribute to the educational futures of students in our region.

This fall’s scholarship recipients are:

  • Pisgah High School – Band Scholarship: Ellery Byrd
    Byrd is the Brass Captain for the band of Bears and has played Trombone for 7 years. Other extracurricular activities include National Honor Society and volunteering for St. Andrews Church. He plans to attend a four-year university and major in Nursing.
  • Tuscola High School – Band Scholarship: Alexus Livesey
    Livesey’s instrument roster includes the flute, piccolo, and the tuba. In addition to marching band, Alexus also plays tennis. After graduation she plans to attend a four-year university and pursue a career in law school.
  • Pisgah High School – Football Scholarship: Jake Conner
    In addition to playing offense as part of the football team, Conner plays baseball, is a member of the National Honor Society, and the FCA. He plans to attend NC State and major in psychology or aerospace engineering after graduation.

  • Tuscola High School – Football Scholarship: Luke McHenry (not pictured)
    McHenry occupies the wide receiver position on the football team. He also participates in wrestling, Sportsman’s Club, and is a member of First United Methodist Church. He plans to attend a four-year university and major in Fish and Wildlife Management.
