Diabetes Education

The Diabetes Program at Haywood Regional Medical Center is a recognized program of the American Diabetes Association. It has met the national standards for diabetes self-management education. This comprehensive  program is taught by certified diabetes educators, registered dietitians, exercise physiologists and licensed counselors.

Program participants receive:

• One, 60 minute initial assessment
• One, 30-60 minute individualized meal planning visit
• Eight hours of group education on topics including:
  
  • How to successfully monitor blood sugar levels
  • How to balance nutrition and meal planning
  • The role of exercise in diabetes management
  • Stress management and the effect on blood sugar levels
  • Understanding of diabetes medications
  • How to prevent and/or manage long-term complications of diabetes

Nutrition Education

The Nutrition Education Program at Haywood Regional Medical Center is led by Registered Dietitians. Individual appointments focus on personalized therapy for your nutrition-related condition and well being.

Our Registered Dietitians can guide you through a variety of conditions including but not limited to:

• Weight Management
• Celiac Disease
• Hypertension
• High Cholesterol/Triglycerides
• Nutrition During and After Cancer Treatment
• Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
• Pediatric and Adolescent Nutrition

Wellness Education is high quality, personalized nutrition education. Ideal for those who are not suffering from chronic illness such as weekend warriors or those interested in a healthy lifestyle.
