HRMC to host Lunch & Learn with Dr. Al Mina: Understanding Dementia

August 29, 2025

Haywood Regional Medical Center (HRMC) invites the community to attend a free Lunch & Learn on Monday, September 15, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM in the second-floor classroom of the Haywood Regional Health and Fitness Center.

The session will be led by Al Mina, MD, general surgeon and chief medical officer for HRMC, who will provide an informative discussion on dementia. Dr. Mina will explore what dementia is, the impact on families and expectations throughout its stages, and activities that may assist with cognitive function.

Dementia is one of the most pressing health concerns in our region, affecting not only those diagnosed but also their families and caregivers. This Lunch & Learn will provide both medical insight and practical tools, helping community members better understand the condition and how to navigate its challenges with knowledge and support.

“We’re proud to offer opportunities for our community to learn directly from expert providers and to tackle topics that touch so many lives,” said Sue Shugart, CEO of Haywood Regional Medical Center. “Educational opportunities like this Lunch & Learn help empower our community with knowledge, compassion, and resources that can truly make a difference.”

Lunch will be provided, and attendees will have the opportunity to engage with Dr. Mina during the session.
