Second Annual Heart Expo ‘Take Heart Haywood’ Set for Feb. 26 at HRMC

January 27, 2026

Haywood Regional Medical Center (HRMC) will host its Second Annual Community Heart Expo, Take Heart Haywood, on Thursday, Feb. 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Haywood Regional Health & Fitness Center Gym. This free, family-friendly event is held in recognition of American Heart Month and is designed to provide education, screenings, and resources that support heart health and disease prevention.

February is nationally recognized as Heart Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about cardiovascular disease, which remains the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. Nearly one in five deaths nationwide is linked to heart disease, and many individuals live with undiagnosed risk factors such as high blood pressure or high cholesterol.

“Heart health is personal and it affects families in every stage of life,” said Sue Shugart, FACHE, CPPS, chief executive officer of HRMC. “This expo is about giving our community simple, approachable ways to ask questions and take steps that support their long-term health.”

Take Heart Haywood will feature:

  • Free blood pressure screenings
  • Heart health and prevention education
  • Nutrition and lifestyle guidance
  • Cardiology and cardiac rehabilitation resources
  • Home-based care and community support information
  • Chair massages, giveaways, and a photo booth
  • Activities for children

The expo is a drop-in event, with activities and resources available throughout the scheduled time. At 11:30 a.m., attendees are invited to participate in a “Heart Hustle Walk” led by Steven Gore, MD, followed by a heart-healthy lunch beginning at 11:45 a.m., while supplies last.

Take Heart Haywood is open to the community, and no registration is required.
