Haywood Regional expands ENT surgical access with Mountain ENT physician Alexander Johnson, MD

Haywood Regional Medical Center (HRMC) is pleased to welcome Alexander Johnson, MD to its medical staff. Johnson is an otolaryngologist with Mountain Ear, Nose & Throat Associates and recently began performing surgical procedures at HRMC.
Johnson earned his medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center and completed residency training in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at the University of Florida. His residency also included research focused on chronic rhinosinusitis and sinonasal disease.
His interest in medicine grew from a longstanding interest in anatomy and physiology, along with a desire to serve others and contribute to his community. During medical school, he was drawn to ENT because of the variety and complexity of surgical care involving the head and neck.
Johnson’s clinical interests include conditions affecting the sinuses, nose, ears, salivary glands, thyroid, tonsils, mouth, and throat.
“I think improving the quality of life of my patients is the most rewarding thing about ENT,” Johnson said. “It is satisfying to watch symptoms improve after receiving treatment, whether it be through medications or surgical procedures.”
His approach to care emphasizes recognizing the individual needs and concerns of each patient and developing treatment plans tailored to those needs.

Originally from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Johnson attended medical school in his home state before completing residency training in Florida. After residency, he and his wife decided they wanted to make their home in the mountains and were drawn to western North Carolina and the Asheville area.
Johnson joined Mountain Ear, Nose & Throat Associates this summer, which has served patients across western North Carolina for more than 30 years and provides care at several locations throughout the region. Johnson will primarily see patients at the group’s Candler location and will perform surgical procedures exclusively at HRMC.
Outside of work, Johnson enjoys hiking, fishing, golf, reading, pickleball and watching movies.
