Haywood Regional Medical Center to Host Lunch & Learn on Diabetes Prevention and Management
October 23, 2026
In recognition of National Diabetes Awareness Month, Haywood Regional Medical Center invites community members to attend an educational Lunch & Learn focused on diabetes prevention and management on Monday, November 9, from noon to 1 p.m. The event will take place in the second-floor classroom at Haywood Health & Fitness Center.
Led by Kathryn Darsillo, RD/LDN, Outpatient Dietitian and Diabetes Educator, the session will provide practical information about understanding diabetes, reducing the risk of developing the condition and making informed lifestyle choices to support long-term health.
Diabetes affects how the body regulates blood sugar and can increase the risk of serious health complications when not properly managed. Understanding risk factors, making balanced nutrition choices and establishing healthy daily habits can play an important role in both preventing type 2 diabetes and managing an existing diagnosis.
During the Lunch & Learn, Darsillo will discuss common risk factors for diabetes, the relationship between nutrition and blood sugar, and practical strategies individuals can incorporate into their everyday routines. Participants will learn how small, sustainable changes can support their overall health and help them take a more active role in diabetes prevention and management.
The session is designed to benefit individuals living with diabetes, those who may be at risk of developing the condition, caregivers and anyone interested in learning more about maintaining healthy blood sugar levels.
Through educational opportunities like its Lunch & Learn series, Haywood Regional Medical Center continues its commitment to making communities healthier by providing accessible health education and resources that empower individuals to make informed decisions about their care.
