Haywood Regional Medical Center honors Scotty Setser with 2025 Mercy Award
May 19, 2025

Haywood Regional Medical Center (HRMC) announced today that Scotty Setser, Director of Haywood Health and Fitness Center and Sports Medicine, has been recognized as the facility’s 2025 Mercy Award winner.
The Mercy Award recognizes one employee from each of Lifepoint Health’s facilities who profoundly touches the lives of others and best represents the spirit and values upon which the company was founded. Established in 2001, the Mercy Award is an annual recognition program that honors the life and contributions of Scott Mercy, Lifepoint’s founding chairman and chief executive officer. It is considered the highest honor a Lifepoint employee can receive.
Setser has been an integral part of the Haywood Regional Medical Center team, leading the health and fitness programs for the community with enthusiasm and dedication for 25 years. His contributions include organizing wellness expos, hosting blood drives, providing free sports physicals for local students, and creating accessible fitness opportunities for all. Beyond his professional responsibilities, Setser’s service is rooted in a deep commitment to the well-being of his community.
One notable act of heroism occurred during Hurricane Helene when Setser’s quick thinking and emergency response skills helped save a life in a critical moment. In the midst of the storm’s chaos and with communications disrupted, Setser’s timely actions provided critical care, ultimately ensuring the individual lived.
“At Haywood Regional Medical Center, our mission of making communities healthier relies heavily on the dedication of our team members. Scotty Setser is a shining example of this commitment,” said Stephen Plemmons, market vice president of operations. “Scotty exemplifies the spirit of compassion and service that defines our organization. We are honored to recognize his dedication to our patients and community. His efforts consistently go above and beyond, making a significant difference in the lives of those we serve.”
Each Lifepoint Health facility’s local Mercy Award winner, including Setser, will be considered for Lifepoint’s companywide Mercy Award. The companywide winner will be announced this summer and honored during a ceremony in Nashville, TN.
