September 9, 2024
Haywood Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce the addition of Tony Li, DO, to its medical staff. Beginning September 17, Dr. Li will practice primary care at the newly established Haywood Family Practice - Asheville at 123A Acton Circle, Asheville, NC, conveniently located near the Enka-Candler exit on Interstate 40.
A longtime Enka-Candler resident, Dr. Li joins Haywood Regional Medical Center as a family medicine physician, having completed a residency in family medicine at Spartanburg Regional Health System in Spartanburg, SC, where he held the position of Chief Resident from July 2023 to May 2024. Dr. Li earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine and holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Dr. Li served as the Resident Representative of the Collaborative Care Committee at Spartanburg Regional and as the Student Site Representative at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. His research contributions include a quality improvement project on interpretation services and a study on tobacco use among uninsured rural populations.
His academic excellence has been recognized through several awards, including Sigma Sigma Phi, the NCAFP Foundation Family Medicine Scholarship, the Karen J. Nichols, DO LEAD Scholarship, and the Osteopathic Family Medicine Student Award.
"We are delighted to welcome Dr. Li to our medical team and to expand access to primary care in our neighboring communities," said Chris Brown, RN, CEO of Haywood Regional Medical Center. "Dr. Li’s training, leadership experience, and commitment to preventative care will greatly benefit his patients and our communities as a whole."
Dr. Li and his family relocated to Buncombe County during his middle school years, where he attended Enka Middle School and Enka High School before completing his high school studies at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. During his time in medical school and residency, he made it his aim to return to the Asheville area to practice medicine in his home community.
“After spending time as a hospital volunteer and shadowing providers in my high school years, I knew that I wanted to be a physician and establish a supportive, person-centered relationship with patients, hopefully caring for them for many years,” said Dr. Li. “My medical philosophy is prevention – helping diseases to not happen in the first place.”
Dr. Li is dedicated to the principles of continuity of care and prevention, emphasizing the importance of long-term patient relationships and proactive health management.
Outside of work, Dr. Li enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing disc golf, and trying new plant-based recipes.
